Michael Edwards, owner and founder of Thee Wellness Institute, earned his MA from East Carolina University in Health Education, and a Certificate in Nutrition, Body Care, and Herbalism from the Australasian College of Health Sciences (now the American College of Healthcare Sciences). He obtained his CHES designation in 2003 with the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc., and received his RHEd designation in 2005, with the NC Board of Registry for Health Education, Inc. Shortly after receiveing his MA, he earned his North Carolina EMT License and for several years provided Health and Safety Instruction with the American Red Cross.
News flash! Michael has just been honored by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) as the American College of Heathcare Sciences's Famous Alumni for 2010 for the "quality of his contributions to society and to his chosen profession."
Michael is an active public speaker and author, with years of experience in adult wellness program planning, implementation, and evaluation. He regularly produces articles on healthy living, disease prevention, healthy eating, and stress management for national and regional publications and has been a guest speaker at civic clubs, on radio, and TV.
His background includes individual and group instruction in fitness, weight loss and weight management, nutrition, holistic stress management, memory improvement, heart health, diabetes and cancer prevention, tobacco cessation, and lifestyle management. He holds Certifications as a Wellness Coach, Personal Trainer, Fitness Nutrition Coach, Tobacco Cessation Treatment Specialist, Sports Hypnotist, and is Certified as a Hypnotherapist through the Association of Integrative Psychology and the American Board of Hypnotherapy.
Michael has worked closely with active duty and retired members of the US Military while under contract as the clinic Health Educator at Halyburton Naval Hospital, Cherry Point, NC and more recently as the Health Education Program Manager at Patrick Air Force Base, FL.
